"Jocelyn! Dinner time!"
"Coming Mom!" Jocelyn yelled in response from downstairs. She went out of her bedroom door, and bounded up the stairs with ease.
"Mmm spaghetti," she said, noting the steaming pot of noodles on the table, along with a generous bowl of sauce and some spinach salad.
"Yes, yes, I know you're a fan of the carbs," said Jocelyn's mom, Janice. Trying to make the most of the opportunity to make a sensible remark, she followed up by saying, "You know, it wouldn't hurt you to have some protein too. I made a special sauce this time with extra chicken."

A blurred and painful awakening disrupted Chuck’s dormancy as his eyes slowly focused on his digital alarm clock.
